What is it?
Old vintage Ralph chinos, some Levi’s denim jeans, and a jacket.
How long have you had them?
The chinos I’ve had for 15 years; the denim bits I’ve lost count, maybe 20.
How did they come into your possession?
The chinos I bought the very first week I moved to London. I bought them from a charity shop in east London for £20, tags still on! Since then, they’ve been worn and beaten up. The denim I bought whilst I was still in Birmingham – where I grew up – from the famous rag market at the Bullring. It was there I first found my love for vintage clothing. At one time, Birmingham was a great city for vintage with some quality shops. Unfortunately, most are gone now. I bought these from Paul Canning, a legend in Birmingham vintage. He had his stall at the market for nearly 60 years, I think!
What do those bits mean to you?
They remind me of times in my life: the chinos my first move away from home to London, and the denim always reminds me of fond memories of walking around town, shopping on Saturday afternoons with mates.
And what do you like about your Kamakura shirt?
I love the fit of the shirt, the collar roll, and the colour of the green. I think it’s super versatile: you can wear it very smart under a suit, but you could also go up a size up and wear it more oversized and loose for a super casual look.
