11.25A Stroll Around the Barbican with Moteen Abbassi

As the seasons begin to change, we enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the Barbican with our well-dressed friend Moteen.

What’s your favourite thing about this time of year?

The transition. The days becoming colder. How everything feels fresh. It’s the perfect weather for a walk, the sun is lower and the light is beautiful. I love the run-up to the festive period and how everyone’s mood is one of joy. It’s also great for clothing. The layering and the warmer fibres. One of my favourite times of the year.

What is it that you love about the Barbican?

The Barbican is an icon. I have spent time here at gigs, concerts, or just for a coffee and a stroll.
It’s a Grade II listed complex and
a stellar example of brutalism's golden age. It feels like a city within a city. For me the love comes from design – the complex structure and intertwining paths that take you into this marvel of a place.

What qualities do you look for in a good overcoat?

A good overcoat must have room. It should feel spacious when you wear it. I also love a raglan sleeve which allows movement without restriction. A good overcoat is like
a great pair of shoes. It’s something that should transcend time and trends. It’s a garment for life.

Any autumn styling tips you’d like to share?

Just be comfortable. Don’t follow trends. It’s really that simple. Invest in some good knitwear.
A good pair of shoes and a good coat. These staples will build any outfit effortlessly.
